Kenyan Purple Tea

Purple tea is Kenya's newest tea innovation, celebrated for its unique color, rich taste, and remarkable health benefits. Originating from meticulous research and development by the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya (TRFK), purple tea was first commercially released in 2011 with the introduction of the specialized cultivar TRFK-306 which comes from var. Camellia Sinensis Assamica.

Grown primarily in the fertile highlands, purple tea derives its distinct hue and powerful antioxidant properties from anthocyanins—the natural compounds responsible for its vibrant purple color. Compared to traditional black and green teas, purple tea boasts lower caffeine levels, a smoother taste, and exceptional health benefits, including cardiovascular support and anti-inflammatory properties.

Today, Kenyan purple tea is gaining popularity worldwide as a premium, health-focused tea, enjoyed for its floral aroma and gently fruity taste.

Kenyan Tea Industry

Kenya is renowned globally for its high-quality tea, celebrated for its rich flavor, bright color, and strong, distinctive taste. The country's tea industry, primarily concentrated in the fertile highlands such as Kericho, Nandi Hills, and Nyeri, benefits from ideal climatic conditions—abundant rainfall, volcanic soils, and high-altitude growing environments.

Kenya is the world's largest exporter of black tea, predominantly produced using the Cut, Tear, Curl (CTC) method and third largest tea exporter globally if we account all tea categories. Recently, Kenyan tea producers have diversified into high-quality orthodox teas and specialty varieties, including green, purple, white, yellow, and oolong teas, catering to evolving international tastes.

Sustainability and ethical practices are core values of Kenya's tea industry, with many producers certified by international bodies for fair trade, organic farming, and ethical labor standards. As a result, Kenyan tea not only delivers exceptional quality but also contributes positively to community development and environmental stewardship.

Kenyan white tea represents the pinnacle of tea craftsmanship in Kenya, celebrated for its subtle flavor, delicate aroma, and exceptional purity. Made from the youngest tea buds and minimally processed, Kenyan white tea is one of the most refined and least oxidized teas available, offering tea enthusiasts an elegant and uniquely satisfying experience.

Harvested by hand during the early morning hours, the delicate buds undergo careful withering and drying processes to preserve their subtle sweetness and aromatic nuances. Kenyan white tea is renowned for its smooth, mildly sweet taste, with gentle notes of honey, floral undertones, and a silky mouthfeel.

Rich in antioxidants and prized for its calming and rejuvenating properties, Kenyan white tea is becoming increasingly popular among those seeking premium, health-conscious beverages.

Kenyan yellow tea is one of the most exclusive teas produced in Kenya, prized for its smooth character, gentle sweetness, and refined complexity. Unlike traditional Chinese yellow tea, it does not undergo the men huang (sealing yellow) process, giving it a uniquely Kenyan flavor profile.

With delicate floral notes, subtle tanginess, and a mellow body, this rare tea offers a sophisticated experience for discerning tea lovers. Its limited production and distinctive method make it especially sought after by connoisseurs and collectors.

Naturally rich in antioxidants and known for supporting digestion and overall wellness, Kenyan yellow tea is an exceptional choice for those seeking a premium, health-conscious beverage.
